Kritter Residence

The project involved the design of a new home for a family with two children and hunting dogs. The site had an existing house that was demolished. The site has limited views towards Lake Mendota to the front and to a conservancy area to the rear. The plan developed areas for all rooms in the house to have views of the conservancy/rear yard.

One program requirement in the design was that the mudroom/dog room has direct access to the garage as well as the rear yard. This is the only room on the first floor that is closed off from the living space. The 2nd floor has two bedrooms, full bathroom, and a master suite with access to a large art studio room.

The house style was designed to fit into the neighborhood of older houses. This was accomplished by use of materials, roof pitch and window style. The design was pushed toward contemporary by the use of galvanized standing seam metal roof and window placement. The windows at corners of the rooms expand the views to the lake and conservancy areas.
